Read the latest issue of GEWEX News, featuring articles on a variety of topics:
- Current challenges in determining evapotranspiration (ET), and an upcoming workshop in Sydney scheduled for October 2019 dealing with ET-related issues
- Suggestions for making both the transition of research to operations (R2O) and operations to research (O2R) more efficient, and how GEWEX can play a stronger role
- New activity LIAISE in the Iberian Peninsula aims to improve understanding of the impact of anthropization on the water cycle in land-atmosphere-hydrology interactions and model limitations in representing the terrestrial water cycle in semi-arid environments
- COORDE project intends to understand and constrain the effects of parameterized and resolved orographic drag
- New LS4P project addresses the impact of initialization of large-scale LST/SUBT and snow pack in climate models on S2S prediction, with East Asia and Tibetan Plateau selected as first focus area in TPEMIP
Submissions for this special collection should consider observations and modeling of all aspects of Earth’s energy imbalance and the resultant heating of various components of the Earth system (ocean, land, atmosphere and cryosphere). Guidelines and information on sending your contribution are available here.
The Young Earth System Scientists-Young Hydrologic Society (YESS), together with the Young Hydrologic Society (YHS), published a perspective paper on major challenges and opportunities that arise in the study, understanding, and provision of regional information for Climate, Weather and Hydrological (CWH) extreme events. This perspective paper was born of discussions from the 3-day YESS-YHS
Early Career Researcher Workshop, held alongside the GEWEX Open Science Conference in May 2018.
