The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is organizing a one week training school on predictability over the sub-seasonal to decadal timescales in collaboration with the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and the Agence Nationale de l’Aviation Civile ed de Meteorologie (ANACIM). This school will include lectures by leading experts from WCRP’s Working Group on Seasonal to Interannual Prediction (WGSIP) on predictability over the sub-seasonal to decadal timescales, with concrete examples from some of the world’s leading operational centers. Lab-based classes will introduce the participants to the new S2S Project subseasonal and CHFP seasonal forecast databases.

Deadline: 1 October 2016

WCRP and WWRP have established an International Prize for Model Development, awarded annually for an outstanding contribution to weather and climate model development by an early- to mid-career researcher. More details on eligibility, required nomination material, and the selection process can be found at http://www.wcrp-climate.org/wmac-activities/ipmd2016.

Senior Research Scientist Positions at the Climate Change Science Institute at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Application Deadline: 1 August 2016

The Climate Change Science Institute (CCSI) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting two senior research scientists. One position is in the Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability (IAV) group and the other is for a data scientist in the Data Integration, Dissemination, and Informatics (DIDI) group. The successful candidate for the IAV position will be a thought leader in the field of IAV research, and will be expected to grow and lead IAV projects and staff that advance the state-of-the art in the research, modeling, and analysis of climate change impacts. The successful candidate for the DIDI position will help solve the “big data” problem associated with studying the climate system and how natural and human systems influence and are impacted by a changing climate. Use the links below for complete information and application materials.

PhD Studentship in Climate Science for African Scientists at the University of Sussex

Application Deadline: 10 August 2016

The University of Sussex invites applications for two fully funded PhD scholarships for research into African climate science. The Peter Carpenter African Climate Scholarship is open to citizens of African countries only. The PhD projects will be hosted within the Climate Science and Society Research (CSSR) group in the department of Geography, where there is a vibrant research program into the African climate and related fields. Projects will be aligned and associated with major African climate research projects in which the Sussex team are involved. For further information, email globalstudiespg@sussex.ac.uk.
