This special issue, coordinated by the CLIVAR/GEWEX Monsoons Panel, highlights the global challenges in monsoon research. Contents include:
- An overview of rainfall metrics used to assess model simulations of monsoons
- A look at the progress made in improving diurnal precipitation simulation in the global monsoon system
- Examining the role of moisture sources in the development of the North American Monsoon and the importance of decadal-to-multidecadal variability in modulating the characteristics of the South American Monsoon
- Investigating the mechanics involved in the past and current variability of rainfall in the West African Monsoon region, and attempting to improve future climate projections
- Exploring the intersection between global monsoon regions and GEWEX's Regional Hydroclimate Projects
- Save the date for the 3rd Pan-GASS Meeting in October 2021, and read about several Early Career Scientist competitions
- Remembering Françoise Guichard

Abstract Submission Deadline: 31 January 2021
The goal of this workshop is to discuss and share the latest improvements of atmospheric parameterizations for the representation of clouds with a focus on turbulence, convection, cloud, microphysics and radiation. The workshop is organized in the framework of the High-Tune project ( http://www.umr-cnrm.fr/high-tune/) and follows, in the spirit, the 2017 Delft meeting on the future of
cumulus convection and the 2019 Paracon conference. It will be organized around with only one plenary session with a mixture of invited and contributed presentations and poster sessions.

Dates: 22–24 February 2021
Location: Online
The Developmental Testbed Center (DTC), in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Unified Forecast System's Verification and Validation Cross-Cutting Team (UFS-V&V), will be holding a three day workshop to identify key verification and validation metrics for UFS applications. The goal of 2021 DTC UFS Evaluation Metrics Workshop is to identify and prioritize key metrics to apply in evaluating UFS research products that will help
guide their transition from research-to-operations.

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is looking for a scientist to conduct hydrologic research and develop applications aided by Earth-orbiting satellites. The selected candidate will contribute to maximizing the science return of current and future NASA missions, such as GRACE-FO, SMAP, ECOSTRESS, SWOT, and NISAR, and imagining the next generation of satellites transforming the way we monitor and learn about the hydrological cycle.
