New Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) Monthly and Daily Datasets
The new Version 3.2 Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) datasets for both monthly and daily global precipitation have been released. Compared to Version 2, Version 3 has finer spatial resolution; new input products; the latest GPCC gauge analysis; and climatological information from TRMM, GPM, and CloudSat over oceans. The Monthly and Daily cover
the periods 1983–2020 and June 2000–December 2020, respectively. Version 3 development is being supported by the NASA MEaSUREs program.
Dataset links, documentation, and contact information are provided in the respective landing pages:
The operational Version 2.3 Monthly and 1.3 Daily datasets continue to be produced as Version 3.2 is introduced for evaluation and use by the community. Look for a short description in an upcoming GEWEX Quarterly.

An international multi-model intercomparison project is being organized by the GEWEX Global Atmospheric System Studies (GASS) Panel to investigate the interactions between convection and environmental conditions, processes that control nocturnal convections, and the transition from shallow to deep convection on a diurnal timescale ( https://portal.nersc.gov/project/capt/diurnal/). The GASS Diurnal Cycle of Precipitation (DCP) project is a multi-year research project. Our current effort emphasizes the Global Circulation Model (GCM) part of the project. It includes both climate simulations and hindcast runs with global weather and climate models. The project is still open for participation, and the deadline for submission of your GCM model simulation data is
April 30, 2022.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is now accepting preliminary proposals from scientists worldwide to use components of the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) user facility for field campaigns. Preproposals are being sought for the deployment of an ARM Mobile Facility (AMF). Campaign proposals to augment an ARM atmospheric observatory also will be considered. Priority will be given to proposals that make comprehensive use of ARM facilities, focus on strategic goals of the DOE
Biological and Environmental Research (BER) program, and have the ability to improve regional or global earth system models. Proposals that coordinate with other BER community capabilities, such as the AmeriFlux Network, or that support the goals of the Global Energy and Water cycle Exchanges (GEWEX) project, are encouraged.
